Motor racing driver. Count Carel Pieter Antoni Jan Hubertus Godin de Beaufort was a Dutch aristocrat born on his families estate at Maarsbergen, east of Utrecht. He began in Formula 2 and gained a reputation for hot-headedness although he later calmed down to become a steady reliable driver. He loved Porsche cars and raced an elderly 4-cylinder Porsche 718 in his national racing colour of orange. In 1963 he gained two second places at the Syracuse and Rome GPs. Unusually he always raced without shoes. During the practise for the 1964 German GP at the Nurburgring, his elderly car suddenly veered off the track and the driver was thrown out. The car wasn't badly damaged but de Beaufort sustained a broken thigh and breastbone and severe concussion. He was taken firstly to the local hospital but a decision was taken to move him to neurological centre at Cologne. Unexpected he died suddenly three days after the crash.
