She received the Lord into her life when she was 11 years old and has served Him faithfully throughout the years. She was a member of Family Life Christian Center and was devoted to supporting various Christian ministries.
Shirley was interested in nursing and helping those who could not help themselves. She fulfilled that ambition as a nurse’s assistant at Parkway Terrace Nursing Home and then later as a lab technician for an oral surgeon. She truly loved her patients and often shared her faith with them.
She loved nature, spending time at the beach, cooking for her family and friends, and listening to the great hymns of faith.
Shirley and her husband Ivan Leer were married for 57 years. She is survived by her devoted husband; four daughters, Cindy (Mike) Hoidas, Heidi (Keith) Hershey, Wendy (Dan) Rhanor, and Holly (Rikk) Currence; eight grandchildren, Nate and Mandie, Justin and Joshua (Kelsey), Danielle (Jason), Jesse and Levi, and Kyle; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Brooklyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
She was devoted to her family and loved being a wife, mom, grandma and great grandma.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street in York Spring, PA. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in York Springs, PA.
