Lola Aiken was born June 24, 1912 in Montpelier, VT, the daughter of Italian immigrant parents. She was educated in Montpelier and was class valedictorian when she graduated from Montpelier High School. Initially, she worked in a law firm before accepting a position at the Vermont Secretary of States office. In 1940, she was invited to join the staff of Senator George Aiken in Washington D.C. In the 1950's she was appointed Chief of Staff in the Senator's Washington office. After the death of his first wife, Senator George Aiken and she were married on June 30, 1967.
After her husband's death she remained active with local and state commitments serving on various boards including the George D. Aiken Lecture Series, Vermont Historical Society, Champlain College and many more over the years. She was also the recipient of the first Grace Coolidge award.
In addition to her husband and her parents she was predeceased by her sisters Rosina Pierotti and Olga "Ollie" Robie
