Aged 23 years enlisted at Columbia, Kentucky September 25, 1861 mustered in November 26, 1861 as Sergeant with Co. A. 9th Kentucky Infantry mustered out December 15, 1864 at Louisville, Kentucky.

Joseph E. Benedict, formerly a carpenter, died at 8:15 yesterday morning of paralysis. The first stroke occurred about two years ago and the second happened last Saturday.

A widow and four children survive. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the family residence, 460 Cherry street. Rev. W.O. Anderson of the First Baptist church will conduct the religious exercises, after which the remains will be buried in Maple Park cemetery.
