The obituary of Joel Anderson Drake as in the Sidney Daily News:

Joel Drake, aged 99 years, one of the oldest residents of Shelby County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.M. Kiser, at Fletcher at whose home he had been taken seriously ill for several weeks, Sunday morning at 3 o'clock. He had been in remarkably good health until last January waiting on himself, taking walks and was conscious up until the last few days.
The deceased was born March 17, 1839. He leaves to mourn his passing, two sons, Levi of Lena and Fred of Iowa; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Covault and Anna Wallace, of Piqua; and Mrs. Rosa Kiser, of Fletcher, with whom he made his home.
The following of twenty-six grandchildren who live in Shelby county also survive.
Mrs. Earl Ely, of Bunker Hill; Anderson Kiser, of Orange Township; Mrs. Andrew Herring, of Maplewood; and Mrs. Emerson Booher, of Turtle Creek township, also several great grandchildren.
The deceased had spent the greater part of his life as a resident or Brown Township, Miami County as a farmer. He was very much active in the community in which he lived. At 91 he put out 17 acres of corn and seven acres of oats.
The deceased was a member of the British Christian Church. Funeral services held at Suber Funeral Home at Fletcher, Rev. Kester Schlecty, pastor of Springcreek Baptist Church, of which he was a member, officiating. Burial in Fletcher Cemetery.
