Wilber M. Benham Jan. 16, 1912 - April 13, 1996

A memorial service for the Rev. Wilber Moore Benham of Eckert was this morning at Rye Home United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Adams officiating. The Rev. Benham died of natural causes Saturday at his home. He was 84.
He was born Jan. 16, 1912, to George J. and Minnie Harkins Benham in Vivian, Texas. He spent his childhood and attended school in Vivian and Crowell, Texas, and also attended East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma. He married Ellene M. Chesnut on Dec. 22, 1933, in Ada. They divorced.
The Rev. Benham entered the ministry of the Methodist Church in the Oklahoma Conference in 1933. After serving several churches in southern Oklahoma, he moved to Colorado in 1945 and continued his ministry in the Rocky Mountain Conference of the Methodist Church for the next 29 years. During this time he served Colorado churches in Olney Springs, Merino, Atwood, Cheyenne Wells, Rye, Keensburg and Arvada. In 1948 he received a master of arts degree from lliff School of Theology. He retired from the ministry in 1974 after 41 years. He enjoyed photography, working in his garden and doing carpentry work.
Survivors include four sons, Wilber and Charles, both of Littleton, Freemont of Denver and Melvin of King George, Va.; three brothers, Howard of Carlsbad, N.M., Ralph of Ardmore, Okla., and Marion of Lovington, ,N.M.; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Pension Fund, 2200 S. University, Denver 80210
