Our beloved mother, Roene Shaffer Van Noy, passed away on July 23, 2014 at her home while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Preston, Idaho on March 25, 1929, the first born child to LeRoy Jessop Shaffer and Pearl Stocks.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas, Sr.; son, William Thomas Van Noy, Jr.; sisters, Cosette Shaffer, ArLee Bales, and Sherry Jackson; brothers, Dal Shaffer, Brent Christensen, Parents Leroy Jessop Shaffer, and Pearl Stocks -Shaffer -Christensen; step-father, Ruben Christensen; and two precious great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Stacia Roseman, Cindy Sims, and Bruce Van Noy (wife, Linda); sister, Marsha Pilgeram; daughter-in-law, Terri VanNoy Winters; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Roene married William T. Van Noy on May 7, 1950 in Elko, Nevada; they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 8, 1985.

Roene graduated from Preston High 1947. She worked as a telephone operator, nurse's aide at a rest home, and doing laundry at South Davis Community Hospital Environment Services. She then went to Lakeview Hospital for twenty-eight years and became executive housekeeper. She became a member and secretary of National Executive Housekeeping in 1968.

She was awarded Citizen of the Year in 1978-1979 for Davis County Development Center; she has many certificates of continuing education in healthcare as well as self development courses she has taken.

She was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration shortly after she retired and became legally blind. She became a member of the National Association of the Blind. She took many classes for the blind and was determined to never allow her diseases to overcome her. She was selected to meet Governor Jon Huntsman's wife, Mary Kaye, as a representative of the blind.

She joined the Daughters of the Pioneers in 2007. She was a member of H2U; and participated in monthly Birthday luncheons with several of her friends. She was a member of Senior Friends and loved going on the cruises, and traveling with her various groups.

Mother was not just our mother, not just our grandmother not just our sister, aunt, or friend. She was everyone's mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend all who knew her instantly loved her as she loved them and was immediately a part of the family.

She started a Christmas Eve tradition, where the family gathered and celebrated together. Anyone was welcome, friend or foe.

She was honored to have the China Ambassadors brought by sister to join in our celebration. Mother had many gifts and talents and the sweetest spirit. She is the most genuine example of unconditional love.

We all thank you mother for the many lessons and unconditional love you have given us for all your wisdom and encouragement. There is no doubt that you will be missed terribly here on earth but know God has another special mission in store for you now. Your family will cherish you for time and eternity until we meet again.

Funeral services will be held at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to the services on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
