Grand Prix Racing Driver. Peter John Collins drove briefly for BRM and Vanwall before signing for Ferrari in 1956. By 1958 Collins, partnered by his very good friend Mike Hawthorn, became a championship contender after winning the British GP at Silverstone. However their Ferrari Dino 246s were fighting against the odds against the Vanwalls. Two weeks later at the German GP at Nurburgring, he lost control and crashed off the circuit, dying later that evening from head injuries.
