Betty Ellen Mitchell, 78, of Delmar, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury.
She was born on November 23, 1936 in Seaford, a daughter of the late Clarence and Sarah Johnson.
Betty enjoyed bowling, reading and cooking for her family. She attended First Baptist Church in Delmar, and was a member of the Delmar V.F.W. Post 8276 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin E. Mitchell of Delmar; a daughter, Patricia Lynn Mitchell of Delmar; grandchildren, Christie (Kevin) Wilson, Michelle Hammond, Michael Hammond, Kandy Truitt, Nicole Mitchell Brommell; great grandchildren, Ian, Emily, Tyler, Kaleigh, Jerzee, and Ariana; brothers, Roland Johnson of Dover and Howard James Johnson of Laurel; sisters, Isabelle Adkins, Dorothy Ann Wainwright, and Gloria Jean Milligan, all of Delmar; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Edward Mitchell; a daughter, Theresa Ellen LaBarrie; brothers, Johnny Johnson and Dyson Johnson; and sisters, Florence Gertrude King and Mary Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Dr. Robert E. Douglas, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow the service at St. Stephens Cemetery in Delmar.
