Survived by wife of 12 years, Kristin Cunningham; sons, Will, Evan and Blake Cunningham all of Franklin, TN; parents, Paul and Freda Cunningham; sisters, Carmen Choate and husband Kent all of Oklahoma City, OK, Nancy Royall and husband Bob; father and mother-in-law, Norman and Sue Johnsen all of Plano, TX. Services will be conducted 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at Christ Community Church, 1215 Hillsboro Road, Franklin, TN with Pastors Scotty Smith, Craig Brown and Kent Choate officiating. Interment Williarnson Memorial Gardens, Pallbearers: Kent Choate, John Duncan, Christopher Davis, Matthew Huesmann, John Lammers and Bob Royall. Visitation 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at the Church. ln lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Christ Community Church and designate to Grant Cunningham Memorial Fund, 1215 Hillsboro Road, Franklin, TN 37069. Sparrow Label Group Mourns the Loss of Grant Cunningham
A R Executive and Songwriter dies after sustaining head injuries in a sporting accident.

Grant Cunningham, vice president of A&R for Sparrow Label Group passed away Sunday, July 7. After suffering a severe head injury Wednesday, July 3 while playing soccer in Williamson County he underwent emergency surgery and received medical care at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He died peacefully Sunday afternoon with his family by his side.

In a letter to his staff, president of Sparrow Label Group Peter York celebrated the life of a close friend and colleague. "Grant was an extraordinary human being who at the young age of 37 has left a profound legacy that has touched and will continue to touch many lives. We will all miss him greatly. His character exemplified a great man of personal and Godly integrity. His gifts and his talents have made an immeasurable contribution to us, to our artists and to their music. Everyone loved Grant and I know we will find it difflcult to go forward without him".

Grant is survived by his wife, Kristin, and three sons, twins Will and Evan (5 yrs.) and Blake (1 1/2 yrs). The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Over the past eight years, Grant Cunningham has served as friend and mentor to the staff and artists of Sparrow Label Group. He was first hired as project manager, A&R for Sparrow Records in October of 1994 and most recently served as vice president, A&R. His relationships with artists and writers were strong and built upon mutual respect and a desire to produce quality, God-inspired music to affect the lives of listeners. He is responsible for the creative direction and development of Avalon, a genuine A&R and artist development success story, taking them from new artist to gold-selling status in only three years. He also signed Michelle Tumes and pop group Jump5 and chaired the A&R committee for the WOW brand. He was currently working on new projects from Jump5, Chris Tomlin and Avalon members Jody McBrayer and Janna Long as well as several multi-artist and concept projects.

Grant's impact on the Christian Music Industry was not confined to his success in A&R. He was also a prolific songwriter for EMI Christian Music Publishing who has written or co-written numerous number one songs for Point of Grace, Avalon, Cindy Morgan, Steve Green and Jonathan Pierce, as well as numerous other songs for artists/projects such as Amy Grant, The Martins, Sandy Patti and Kathy Trocolli. Notable writing credits include "Blue Skies," recorded by Point of Grace and "Always Have, Always Will," recorded by Avalon.

Grant won a Dove Award for Pop Song of the Year for "The Great Divide" (1996) (recorded by Point of Grace) and a 1995 Emmy Award for an Original Composition for NBC. In 1999 he was ranked 2nd among Christian songwriters by American Songwriter Magazine. His creativity included being a member of the faculty for both the GMA Academy of Gospel Music Arts and the Christian Artist‘s Seminar. He also created a songwriting curriculum for GMA. Prior to his responsibilities for Sparrow, Grant sang on commercials for Coke, Frito Lay, Post Cereals, Chevrolet, Logo Athletic and Visa.

A graduate of Baylor University, Grant moved to Nashville in 1989 from Oklahoma City, OK. He married Kristin Johnsen in 1990 and had three children, Will, Evan and Blake. They resided in Franklin, TN and attended Christ Community Church where Grant served as an elder.
