Anna was named after her paternal grandmother, Anna Catharine Hummel Markey Garnhart, findagrave memorial # 114631488. An embroidered sampler made by Anna in 1835 at age 12 is in the collection of the DAR Museum in Washington D.C. Anna was first married to Milton Mantz, a druggist in Frederick MD. They had one child, Cyrus Mantz. Following her first husband's death, she married Philip Jones of Baltimore. The couple lived in Baltimore until Philip Jones' death, when Anna returned to Frederick. She is remembered by the Markey family historian, Frank Gibson (the son of Anna's cousin Mary Ellen Markey Gibson) as a "bright and interesting woman" with whom he was fascinated as a child because she was "an excellent shot with rifle and pistol."
