Jeanne Coffin Wilkerson passed away very quietly in her wheelchair on 22 June 2014 at the WhiteStone Care and Wellness Center, a Masonic and Easters Star Facility, in Greensboro, NC. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho on 19 January 1922, the only child of Thomas Chalkley Coffin and Cora Aileen Franklin. She belonged to the Coffin family that came to England with the Norman Conquest in 1066. They began to construct Portledge Manor in Devonshire in 1068 and her direct predecessor came from there to America in 1642 and was one of the nine original English settlers of Nantucket Island. Her Nantucket family moved to New Garden, North Carolina and joined the Quaker Settlement. Her GGGG Grandfather and GGG Grandfather, William Coffin, Sr. and William Coffin, Jr., with their wives are buried at the Quaker Cemetery in Greensboro, NC. Members of the family operated the Underground Railroad from Greensboro to Indiana transporting runaway slaves to freedom until the family was chased out of North Carolina and relocated in Richmond, Indiana. Afterwards the family moved westward and finally became pioneers in Idaho. Her father was the first native-born Idahoan elected to serve in the U.S. Congress. Her grandfather, Nathan G. Franklin was a pioneer in Pocatello, Idaho and with his brother-in-law Robert J. Hayes established and became the co-owners of the Franklin=Hayes Brewery that later became the regional Coca-Cola Franchise. Jeanne was a graduate of Pocatello High School, Idaho State University, and Wolf's School of Designing in Los Angeles, California. She was a member of the PEO, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and had been a member of the Order of the Easter Star for 71 years. She came from a Masonic family for her father, uncles, and both grandfathers were Freemasons. Her paternal grandfather was Grand Master of Freemasons in Idaho IN 1917. Marine Corps (Ret), Richard n. Wilkerson, chairman Emeritus of Michelin North America, AND Chef Fred C. Wilkerson; FOUR GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. Memorial Services AT St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 w. Market Street, Greensboro, NC will be at 2 p.m. ON July 8 2014.
