Mial Davis was a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Burlington, and a strong supporter of Burlington's Young Men's Christian Associateion (YMCA). Along with both of his wives, he was active in the temperance movement. Mial also served as treasurer of the Vermont Academy in Saxton's River, Vermont.
As a partner in the firm Shepard, Davis, & Company, lumber dealers, Mial was one of Burlington's most successful businessmen. The Burlington weekly free press., February 21, 1873, includes an article on a new planing mill in Burlington, noting that "The new mill is the largest planing-mill in America, with one exception, being second in size only to the immense mill of Shepard, Davis & Co., in this city (which has no equal anywhere)." In 1876, Mial retired from the firm, which lead to is dissolution. It was immediately reformed under the remaining original partners.
Mial married Lucy J. Whedon Monroe on July 15, 1874 in Burlington, Vermont.
