She was born December 11, 1933 in Laurel, a daughter of the late Olin Joshua Workman and Mary Elizabeth White Workman.
Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always put the needs of others before her own. She worked side-by-side with her husband and family on the family farm raising pigs and livestock and was well respected in the farming community for her hard work and kindness. Her family and her faith were the things that meant the most to her. She attended Laurel Church of Christ. She and her late husband led by example as they taught their children and grandchildren the importance of working hard. Betty loved the outdoors. She loved gardening, birdwatching, sewing, cooking, and raising her family.
She is survived by 5 sons, Philip A. Hudson (Cathy), Lemuel S. Hudson (Jessie), Benjamin J. Hudson (Barbara Ann), Jason L. Hudson (Lisa) and Nathan R. Hudson (Sherie), all of Laurel; 2 daughters, Nancy L. Bickerton (Charles Michael) of Laurel and Barbara Jan Deitrick of Millville; 18 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Darwin A. Hudson; a daughter, Holly A. Hudson; a grandson, Andrew Bickerton; a brother, Richard Lee Workman; and a sister, Evelyn Shockley.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Following the service the family will welcome everyone to join them at the fellowship hall at the Laurel Church of Christ for a gathering of food and fellowship.
