Sellie Edward ‘Papa' Hollis


Sellie Edward "Papa" Hollis, 101, of Sayre, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at his residence. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and a member of Brooklin Masonic Lodge No. 704 F&AM.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. Doug Tate and Rev. Steve Knox will officiate. Burial will follow in the McCormack Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home will direct.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Hollis; daughter, Geraldine Hollis; parents, John and Mandy Hollis; brother, Harold Hollis; sisters, Novie Ware, Lona Greathouse and Nathan Ingram; and great-granddaughter, Amy Michelle Capps.

He is survived by his sons, Charles Edward Hollis Sr. of Sayre and Kenneth Hollis and his wife, Joyce, of Madison; daughter, Faye Capps of Bagley; grandchildren, Lee (Dalene) Capps, Mike (Glenda) Capps, Jeff Capps, Charles "Chuck" Edward Hollis Jr., Kenda Thomas and Melia (Adam) Cummings; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Monet and Skylar Thomas and Christian Hollis.
