Obituary
Truman M. Guthrie went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Lewiston, ID. He was 91.

Born June 9, 1921, in Childress, Texas, to Hubert and Minnie (Malloy) Guthrie, he was the youngest of nine children. Some of Truman's sisters were delivered in birth by his grandmother, Nancy May Ellis Malloy because doctors were scarce and it took them so long to travel on horse or in a buggy. The children had to walk a half mile to school taking their lunch of homemade biscuits, home cured ham, boiled egg and homemade tea cakes (cookies) in a syrup bucket which was spread out on the top of their desks at lunch time to share.

Truman (Lanky) joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 to serve in World War II. He was a Private and was stationed in the Caribbean, Pacific and the Panama Canal. He earned a Good Conduct Medal and American Campaign Medal of Honor.

After leaving the Army he married Dorothy Pfrimmer in 1946. They had two children Rita Darlene and Samuel Madison (Sammy). The family were members of the Calvary Baptist Church. Truman worked for Phillips 66, becoming a sheriff, and then a policeman for the Dumas Police Department. He also volunteered for the Dumas Fire Department. He survived the McKee Tank Farm explosion on July 29, 1956, one of the worst oil refinery fires in history at that time, which killed 19 firemen and injured 30 employees and firemen. He was lucky to have survived. He lost his helmet during the blaze and suffered severe burns on his arms, ears, and the top of his head. Truman's faith in God deepened after the explosion and he became a Masonic Free Mason.
Dorothy and Truman divorced in 1960.
