William was the first of six children born to James Hasbrouck More and Anna Maria Delatre Whale More. He was raised at Hoboken; McVeytown, Pennsylvania; Kingston, New York; New Hope, Pennsylvania; and New York City. William was a railroad trainman when he married to Celia Josephine Harvey on 7 March 1875 at Hoboken. They made their home at that place where he was associated with Delaware, Lackawana, and Western Railroad as a freight brakeman. The family relocated to Harrison, New Jersey about 1895 where he was a freight conductor with the same company. He died at Saint Mary’s Hospital at Hoboken several hours after a tragic work accident. He was an active member of Moses Taylor Division Number 156 of Railroad Conductors. He was remembered as a careful, diligent, and faithful employee. William and Celia were the parents of eight children; Sarah Annie More, Celia More, William More, Alfred Lewis More, Washington Lafayette More, Henry Eugene More, John Taylor More, and Edna More.
