MUNCIE- D'Lema Louise Smith Baughman, born August 20, 1926 was called to her eternal home on Thursday May 1, 2014.

She was born in Knox County, Indiana, the fifth child of Clarence and Marie (Ellerman) Smith, Sr.

She was raised on a cantaloupe and watermelon farm and always loved her yard and gardens. She was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Knox County, IN.

She married Millard Dale Baughman on August 26, 1950 in the living room of her parents' Bean Blossom, Indiana home.

Mrs. Baughman worked in the Personnel Department at Camp Atterbury and the Accounting departments of RCA and Sears and Roebucks but primarily devoted her life and love to her immediate and extended families and neighbors, always handy with a note, a card, a smile or a meal. She was a lifelong Missouri Lutheran Synod Lutheran, a member of Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church of Morgantown, IN and attended other congregations including Immanuel Lutheran Church of Terre Haute, IN and, most recently, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Muncie, IN. She and M. Dale moved to Terre Haute, Indiana after spending ten years affiliated with the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She has lived with her daughter Dlynn and family in Muncie, Indiana since 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband M. Dale Baughman in 2003, brothers Arthur Smith and Clarence Smith, Jr., sisters Beulah Ackerman and Mary Sluss, and two nieces and one nephew.

She is survived by her children: Dala (John) Beard of Houghton, MI, Dlynn (Joe) Melo of Muncie, IN, Brad (Cynthia) Baughman of Nashville, Indiana; and three grandchildren: Viveka Lee Melo, Olivia Louise Baughman and Grace Marie Baughman; two sisters Donna (Keith) Rhoades and Lueallin (Dwight) Pate of Morgantown, IN and one brother Luther M. (Barb) Smith, Sr. of Bean Blossom, IN, and 21 nieces and nephews.

She was the third generation of German immigrant grandparents and proud of her German and English heritage. She was ‘sharp as a tack' and ‘stubborn as a mule' and loved her Hoosier idioms. She set great examples of kindness and goodness, and the legacy she left is the life she led following Christ.
