On October 17, 1928 as William Remsburgh Grove, he married Elizabeth Galloway Winans Carroll, daughter of Major General Edwin B. Winans at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They were the parents of William Remsburgh Grove III (1931-2002). Their marriage ended in divorce. In 1936, Elizabeth Winans Grove married Harry Mills Astin of the District of Columbia. They divorced in 1943. An article published on Friday, May 23, 1969 in the New York Daily News chronicles her life after her marriages and divorces through an interview by Theo Wilson. On December 5, 1941 as William R. Grove, he married Elizabeth S. Hartnell, the widow of a classmate, at Alexandria, Virginia. They were the parents of one child.
