Obituary
Phyllis Margaret Ethel (Fehr) Pottinger
On September 9, 2013, with family by her side, Phyllis passed away at the Portage District General Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Bill (Myrtle), Allan (Judy), Diane (Steve) and Keith (Carole); ten grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by special nephews Murray (Arlene) and Ken (Shirl); sister Daisy Burnett (Charlie) and sister in law Phyllis Fehr.

She was predeceased by her husband James Pottinger; parents Newton & Margaret Fehr; in laws John & Mary Pottinger; brothers Stan, Ralph, Homer, Len and Victor; sisters Ida and Gladys and in laws Thomas, Ernest and William Pottinger and Lillie Humes. She was also predeceased by her son Gary; daughter Linda (Bob) Hall; grandson Brian and her special nephews Ron and Gerald.

Mom was born in Gladstone on December 12, 1920. She attended school at Livingstone and Gladstone. She was raised on the family farm west of Gladstone and talked of walking along the railroad tracks into town. She met Dad and in April of 1940 they were married and enjoyed almost 70 years together, farming and raising their family. In 1966 after the death of her sister Gladys, Mom and Dad took the responsibility of raising four more boys, Murray, Ken, Ron and Gerry. Mom worked hard alongside Dad on the farm as well as having a large garden and managing a very busy household.

In 1988 Mom and Dad retired to Gladstone. They still had a large garden and gave most of their produce away to family and friends. They spent a lot of time at the Drop-In Centre and made many new friends. In 2002 they sold the house and moved to the Centennial Apartments. After Dad passed away in 2009, Mom became more involved with playing cards, making puzzles and just visiting with the other residents at the apartments.

Mom was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her family. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her apartment is full of pictures of her family. She was proud of every one of them.

We would like to thank the home care workers and staff at the Centennial Apartments for their care to Mom over the years. Thanks also to the staff at the Portage Hospital and the ambulance attendants for their care and compassion.

Viewing was held Friday, September 13, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Clarke's Funeral Chapel, Gladstone and at the Church prior to the Service. Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Gladstone United Church with Pastor Michael Fehr officiating. Interment followed at the Gladstone Cemetery.
