David McCardle, Sr., of White township, died suddenly of heart failure, on Monday morning about 10. The deceased is survived by his wife and five children. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.

Indiana Progress 3/23/1898 page 8
The deceased has lived alone for a number of years in a house on North Sixth street. He was on the street Sabbath afternoon and returned home during the evening in his usual health. About midnight the family living in the other end of the house were awakened by cries for help, but before anyone reached his side he was unconscious, death following immediately. Heart disease was the cause of his sudden ending.
The deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: David and John, who live here; Mrs. William Mason, of Jeannette,; Mrs. Horace Sutton, of McKeesport; Mrs. G.S. Hadden, of Fort Madison, Ia., and Cicero, of Chicago. The deceased was a veteran of the late war and served in the 206th regiment.
