SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. CARPENTER

A respected resident of the city in the person of Mrs. John Carpenter passed to her rest on Sunday evening in the Nazarene Church in surroundings, perhaps, as happy for the final call as she or the family could have chosen considering her exemplary religious life and character. She had not been in great health for some three years, but felt well enough to go out to the Easter services. At the evening service, during the singing, she suddenly lost consciousness and dropped to her seat, and though the family hoped against hope that she had merely fainted, the call had come.

Mrs. Carpenter was 65 years of age, and spent most of her life in Brownsville, Que.; she came to Red Deer in 1913. Besides Mr. Carpenter, she leaves three sons and three daughters. The daughters are Mrs. (Chief) Chas. Anderson, Fernie, B.C., Mrs. Jason Stewart, Edmonton, and Miss Bertha Carpenter, of the W.E. Lord Co. office staff, Red Deer. The sons are Ed. Carpenter, railway trainman, manager of the champion Port Arthur hockey team, Geo. Carpenter, shoe dealer, Toronto, and Ray Carpenter, Red Deer.

The funeral of Mrs. Carpenter took place to the Red Deer cemetery on Thursday afternoon, the body being conveyed from the Orme Funeral Home to the Nazarene Church where Rev. Thos. McDowell conducted the funeral service, bearing testimony to the life and character of the deceased, and the appropriate surrounding of her sudden call at the church on Sunday evening. The church was crowded, and a number could not gain admittance. The pallbearers were members of the family, viz., Ed. Carpenter, Ray Carpenter, Jason Stewart, Earl Stewart, Chas. Anderson, Chas. Sinclair. There was a beautiful array of flowers from friends of the family at Fernice, B.C., Red Deer and other points, including wreaths from the Nazarene Church, the Port Arthur Hockey Club, the Red Deer Hockey Club, and the staff of W.E. Lord Co.
