Sister Mary Teresita Sieradzki, who ministered in the fields of education and office management, died Tuesday in her sleep in Immaculate Conception Convent. She was 86.

Born Dorothy Mary Sieradzki in Detroit, she became a postulant of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph on Sept. 8, 1948, and professed her final vows July 19, 1953.

Sister Teresita received a bachelor's degree in business education from Alverno College in Milwaukee.

Her ministry included 22 years as general treasurer for the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. She ministered as a teacher at St. Vincent, North Evans; Immaculata Academy, Hamburg; St. Hedwig High, Detroit; and St. Mary's, Swartz Creek, Mich.

Sister Teresita also ministered in various office positions at St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga; St. Anthony Home, Hamburg; St. Mary's Hospital, Brooklyn; and Queen of Angels, Detroit. In 1991, she returned to the Motherhouse, where she was the general secretary until August 1992, when she became the general treasurer.

She enjoyed good times, especially dancing the polka at family celebrations and community parties. She also enjoyed her travels with her companions to Poland, Assisi, Florida and "Out West."

Survivors include a brother, Fred.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Immaculate Conception Convent, 5229 South Park Ave., Hamburg

Sister Mary Teresita Sieradzki died peacefully in her sleep on February 25, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Convent in the 86th year of life and the 63rd year of religious life.

Dorothy Mary Sieradzki was born on June 17, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Frederick and the late Mary (nee Szelag). Sister Teresita became a postulant of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph on September 8, 1948 and professed her final vows on July 19, 1953.

Sister Teresita received a Bachelor degree in Business Education from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

For sixty-two years, Sister Teresita ministered in the field of education and office management which included twenty-two years as General Treasurer for the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister ministered as a teacher at St. Vincent, North Evans, NY; Immaculata Academy, Hamburg, NY; St. Hedwig High, Detroit, MI; and St. Mary's, Swartz Creek, MI. Sister Teresita also ministered in various office positions at St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga, NY; St. Anthony Home, Hamburg, NY; St. Mary's Hospital, Brooklyn, NY; and Queen of Angels, Detroit, MI. In 1991, Sister Teresita returned to the Motherhouse where she was the General Secretary until August of 1992 when Sister became the General Treasurer.

Sister Teresita, whose name is written in the loving heart of Christ, will be remembered as a very competent steward of the Congregation's finances. All was in "precise order" in the Treasurer's Office. A deeply prayerful and spiritual woman, Sister was devoted to her family whom she loved dearly and shared their e-mails with the sisters during table conversation. Sister Teresita loved good times, especially dancing the polka at family celebrations and community parties. Sister enjoyed her travels with her Sister companions to Poland, Assisi, Florida and "Out West." How appropriate this quote describes her life…"Happy thoughts of good times past. Make memories that last and last."

Sister Teresita is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Dolores. Sister is also survived by her nieces and nephews; great- nieces and great-nephews.

Wake services will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Convent, Hamburg, New York where a Memorial Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered in the convent Chapel on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in memory of Sister Teresita.
