In point of residence deceased was one of the pioneers of Checotah, locating in the city in 1884. In 1887 the Rogers family moved to Muskogee where they resided until 1898, returning to Checotah during that year and this city has since been her home. Up until recent years she took an active interest in all matters pertaining to the civic growth of the city. Deceased was born near the Illinois river in the Cherokee Nation, October 13, 1849, being 77 years, 4 months and 6 days of age at time of death. Her early life was spent in eastern Texas where she received her education. On March 4 1869, she was united in marriage to W.B. Rogers and to this union was born nine children, three of whom survive to mourn the loss of a loving and affectionate mother. They are W.B. Rogers, Mrs. Pearl Morrow and Mrs. Mary Wise, all residing in Checotah. Her husband passed away in this city on Sept. 25th, 1912. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Susan M. Rogers of Muskogee and two grand children, Wood Cooper Rogers and John Rogers, besides several nieces and nephews. The Rogers family resided for some time near North Fork post office near the present site of Eufaula, later moving to Checotah in 1884, as noted above. At the age of 15 years deceased united with the Methodist church, and later when the Presbyterian church was organized in this city she became one of its charter members and was a true and faithful member of this denomination as long as she lived. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in this city Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. R.G.Carnahan. The Eastern Star, of which deceased had been a faithful member conducted their beautiful ritualistic service at the graveside in Greenlawn cemetery. The many beautiful floral tributes showed the high esteem in which she was held and in a sense were monuments to her love of the beautiful as she was a great lover of flowers and enjoyed working in her flower gardens.
