Jeanne Atkins, 78, of Carmel, passed away February 12, 2014. She was born April 3, 1935, in Providence, RI, to the late Earl S. and Cathleen Winsor Smith.

Jeanne was a 1953 graduate of Providence High School, RI, and attended the University of Rhode Island. She married I. Homer Atkins June 25, 1955, and he preceded her in death June 15, 1997.

Jeanne was a teacher's assistant for Carmel-Clay School Corporation for 15 years, retiring in 1998, and a longtime member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church.

Jeanne is survived by her loving daughters, Deli A. Schleiffarth (Steve), Linda A. Gillette (Kyle) and Cathy A. Kennedy (Matt); grandchildren, Ashley and Corey Gillette, Scott Schleiffarth, Lynne Schleiffarth Burks (Andrew) and Christine and Lia Kennedy; brother, Robert W. Smith (Phyllis); sister, Barbara S. Schmidt (Herb); and sister-in-law, Nancy Smith.

A brother, Earl S. Smith, Jr., preceded her in death.
