Gladys F. Magers, 93, of Davenport, Iowa died Monday, August 11, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Celebration of Life services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, August13 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 12th at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Oakdale Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Oakdale Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Magers was born February 14, 1910 in Quincy, Illinois to George J. Schumacher and Marie (Kurk) Schumacher. She married Kermit D. Magers December 29, 1934 at Salem Church in Quincy, Illinois. He died February 8, 1992.
In 1954 she and her husband took over ownership of the former Tri City Hobby Center and changed the name to Major Art & Hobby Center. Gladys, Kermit and their son Tom operated the business until the senior Magers retired in 1982. Gladys continued helping out Tom well into her 80's. She enjoyed visiting with long-time customers and friends. She especially enjoyed seeing 2nd and 3rd generations of families returning to pursue hobbies.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Tom and Marjorie Magers of Davenport, grandchildren Sarah and her husband Stephen Williamson, Chicago, Jane and her husband Jamie Franco, Davenport, and Matthew, Davenport, one great-granddaughter Madeline Williamson, Chicago and special cousins in Quincy, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy M. Dwyer of Quincy.
