Funeral of Mrs. J. F. Alexander
(Special to the Picayune.)

Meridian, Miss., May 24—The funeral of Mrs. John F. Alexander, nee Mitchell, whose untimely death in Rome, Ga., on Monday was chronicled in this correspondence at the time, was held at the residence of her father, Mr. J.R. Mitchell, on Fifth Street, this morning at 10 o'clock. The esteem in which this lovable young matron was held by the people of her native city was fully attested in the large attendance at the services this morning. At 11 o'clock the remains were interred in Rose Hill Cemetery, in the presence of those who had known and loved her and to whom her death is a sincere bereavement.

Meridian, Miss., May 22—The sad intelligence was received in this city this afternoon of the death of Mrs. John F. Alexander, in Rome, Ga. This sad event occurred this morning, and the announcement will cause a genuine regret in many homes in this city, where this estimable young matron was known and loved. As Miss Annie Mitchell, she was one of the most beautiful young women in Meridian, and being possessed of all the attributes of a lovable character, she was the center of an admiring circle of friends and a general favorite. She had been ill for several months prior to her death, with consumption, and for the last week of her life it was known to her family and friends that her early death was inevitable. She was married in this city about two years ago to Mr. John F. Alexander, who, with a little babe only about 1 year old, is left to mourn her death. The remains will be brought to this city for interment, and the funeral will be held on Wednesday.
