Richard L. Bleak, 70, of Quartzite, Ariz., formerly of Shelley, died July 30, 1993, in Phoenix of respiratory failure.

He was born Aug. 1, 1923, at Lincoln, near Idaho Falls, to William H. and Tamer Young Bleak. He attended St. Leon School in Idaho Falls and Ucon High School.

He was a retired career U.S. Army veteran, where he was a communications specialist. He had served in England and the Pacific during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He also served during the Korean War, Vietnam and in Thailand. Following his discharge, he moved to Shelley, where he lived until 1980, wintering in Arizona. He moved to Arizona permanently eight years ago.

He was a member of the LDS Church. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Survivors include five brothers, a sister and He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Nalder Mortuary in Shelley. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
