Rosalyn Mitchell Work
Resident of Saratoga

Born 16 June 1919, passed away peacefully in her sleep on 2 May 2011. Rosalyn was born in Indian Gap, Texas and grew up in Roaring Springs, Texas. She was a 1942 graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

She was the loving wife of Colonel Robert E. Work, devoted mother of Mitchell R. Work of Lincolnshire, Illinois and Joel Christopher Work of Saratoga, mother-in-law of Susan M. Work of Lincolnshire, Illinois, and grandmother of Jessica O. Work of Portland, Oregon and Emily C. Work of Chicago, Illinois.

Rosalyn and Bob's 66 years of marriage were highlighted by 31 years as an Air Force wife, during which she was an enthusiastic and competent supporter throughout her husband's career in national intelligence activities. This time included overseas assignments in both Austria and Germany, as well as many memorable years in Washington D.C. Throughout the D.C. years Rosalyn was always active and prominent as a schoolteacher of 4th and 5th grades as well as an organizer of garden clubs and other social activities.

Rosalyn's great loves in life included family, friends, teaching school, gardens and flowers. She was involved both as a participant and instructor in numerous floral arrangement activities. In the mid-1950s she co-founded the Fairfax, Virginia Women's Garden Club, a group that is still active and now ranked among the major garden clubs of the Washington D.C. area.

Rosalyn and Bob enjoyed a long, happy retirement in Saratoga. As a resident of Saratoga since 1971 she was very active in numerous local organizations such as Montalvo Center for the Arts, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Foothill Club of Saratoga, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Soup Group, and the Air Force Wives' Club.

She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor and loving spirit. She was warmly cherished and will be deeply missed by her family, friends and the local community. A private memorial service will be held.
