In the Spooner Advocate, dated 04 Feb 1932 on page 1:
C.E. HOWELL CALLED BY DEATH TUESDAY C. E. Howell, 62, a Spanish-American war veteran and pioneer resident of the town of Chicog, died at his home near Mac Lake at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, death following an illness of some duration.

Deceased resided on a farm in Chicog for many years and was well known among neighbors and friends. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. Surviving is one son, Charles, who resided with his father on the home place. The funeral will be held Saturday, burial to take place in the Minong Cemetery.+++10 Feb. 1932

Concervative--Death of Clinton Howell in Wisconsin Henry Stannard recently received a letter telling of the death of C. H. Howell, former resident of this community, at Lampson, Wisconsin on Feb. 2cnd. He was familiarly known to his Independence friends as "Clint" Howell. In 1898 at the time of the Spanish American War, he enlisted under Colonel H. A. Allen, then holding the rank of Captian. Later he saw service in the Phillipine Islands. His wife, who passed away a few years ago, was also a former resident of this city. Her maiden name was Lizzie Woodward. One son survives Mr. Howell, Charles, of Lampson, Wis. Mr. Howell had many other local friends, among whom was Lincoln Bowder

*****Spooner Advocate, dated 11 Feb 1932 on page 4: Clinton E. Howell, whose death we chronicled in our issue of last week, having occurred at his home in the town of Chicog on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1932, was born at Independence, Iowa, Nov. 26, 1869, being therefore 62 years of age at time of passing. Death was attributed to heart disease. Deceased spent the early years of his life in Iowa, coming to this county twenty-five years ago and settling on the farm in Chicog, where he resided until death's summons reached him. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church in Minong last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Chaplain Powe of Engwald R. Moe Post of the American Legion of this city. Military honors were accorded deceased at the grave, Howell having been a veteran of the Spanish-American war. Surviving deceased is one son, Charles Howell, of the town of Chicog. Burial was made in the Minong cemetery.
