He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Armed Forces with the 10th Armored Division and in the pacific on Guadalcanal, the Philippines in the U.S. Dental Corps. He had attained the rank of major in the Army.
He was a graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. He practiced dentistry in Savannah from 1952 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Savannah Dental Society, the Southeastern District Dental Society, the American Dental Society, the Jewish Education Alliance and Temple Mickve Israel.
Survivors: his wife, Phyllis Meddin Fields of Savannah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Dr. Alan Blum of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Jean and Doug Holstein of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Meddin and Robyn Fields, both of South Salem, N.Y.; two brothers, Bertram Fields of Boca Raton, Fla., and Irwin Fields of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service: 11 a.m. Sunday in Bonaventure Cemetery.
