Abbot, Frederic Vaughan, March 4, 1858 born at Cambridge, Mass., son of Henry L. and Mary S. Everett Abbot; June 13, 1879 graduated from West Point (1/67) and appointed 2ndlt., Corps of Engineers; harbor and river improvements including St. Croix River in Minnesota; June 17, 1881 1stlt. Oct. 15, 1885 married Sara J. Dehon at Charleston, S. C. July 22, 1888 capt. 1889-1890 in charge of various works of river and harbor improvements in North and South Carolina and removal of wrecks, defensive works at Fts. Moultrie, Sumter and John-son and Castle Pickney; designed and built mortar battery for 16 breech-loading mortars and fired latter to test emplacements, designed and built three emplacements for 10-inch rifles on disappearing carriages both mortar and ten-inch batteries being on Sullivan's Island, Charles-ton, S. C. harbor; 1890-Sept. 15, 1897 in charge of torpedo material for Charleston defense; Nov. 13, 1894-June 3, 1896 member of civil and military board on Brunswick, Ga. harbor; Dec. 31, 1895-Oct. 9, 1897 lighthouse engineer at 6th Lighthouse District extending from mouth of Cape Fear River, N. C. to Jupiter Inlet, Fla. 1897-1900 district engineer at St. Paul, Minn. from Sept. 18, 1897 in charge of river improvements in Wisconsin and Minnesota; July 5, 1898 maj. Aug. 2-Oct. 24, 1898 in temporary charge of Sioux City District of Missouri River improvements; Sept. 9, 1906 ltcol. June 24, 1909 col. Aug. 5, 1917 briggen. (wartime rank); May 10, 1920 retired for disability as col. Sept. 26, 1928 died in Massachusetts. Oct. 28, 1928 his widow Sara Abbot applied for a pension while living in District of Columbia; Children: Marion B. Abbot and twin Elinor R. Abbot, Dec. 8, 1885 born at Georgetown, D. C. and Henry D.
