MARSHALL [Harrison Co.], Tex., June 8.—Col. L.P. Alford, one of Harrison county's pioneers, died here at the advanced age of 84 years at the residence of his son, J.P. Alford, cashier of the Marshall National Bank.
Col. Alford was born in Troupe county, Georgia, Jan. 12, 1812, and was married in Lowenboro county, Alabama, in 1837 to Miss Annie Sherrill. He came to Texas in 1839 with his family and settled in Harrison county, his home being on the headright which bore his name. He was a lawyer by profession. He has always been identified with Harrison county interests since his residence here.
He leaves four sons and three daughters, J.P. Alford of this city, E. Land [sic] and W.S. Alford of this county, H.C. Alford of Shreveport, La., and Mesdames T.C. Marsden and Mittie Thomas of Shreveport, La., and Mrs. Lou Haynes of this city.
