Chet married his brother Bill's ex-wife, Elfriede Lomker Valk, and raised his nephew, James Frederick Valk, until his untimely death during the War. Chet served with the 101st Airborne, and was parachuting into the front at Foy, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge when he was shot and killed.
His remains were later returned to his family, who buried him at Rosedale Memorial Park.
