Herald Coaster, January 13, 1969:

Funeral services for Rosenberg Tax Assessor Collector, Roy Elkins, were pending Monday morning with Garmany & Company Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Mr. Elkins died at 1 a.m. today in Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was a retired employee of United Gas Company and had worked as dispatcher at the Rosenberg Police Department before taking the tax post.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roy Elkins; one daughter, Mrs. Janie Echels of San Marcos; his mother, Mrs. Marie Elkins of Rosenberg; a grandson; and other relatives.

Funeral services for Roy D. Elkins, 59 of Rosenberg, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Garmany & Company Funeral Home Chapel in Rosenberg, with the Rev. William Jones, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land, officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Elkins died at 1 a.m. Monday in Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond following a long illness.

A native Texan, he retired in 1967 after 30 years' service with United Gas Company. He was later employed with the Rosenberg Police Department as radio dispatcher and then became City Tax Assessor-Collector. He was active in civic affairs and had worked with the Rosenberg Lions Club, the Fort Bend County Fair Association, the Chamber of Commerce, Community Chest, and United Fund.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Elkins; a daughter, Mrs. Janie Echels of San Marcos; mother, Mrs. Marie Elkins of Rosenberg; and a grandson, James Stidham Echels of San Marcos

Pallbearers were Bud Bean, Raymond Kueck, Oran Alston, F.A. Mabry, Johnny Mensik, and Marvin Mensik. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Rosenberg Police Department and City Hall employees.

Funeral services were under the direction of Garmany & Co. Funeral Directors.
