CLAFLIN — Gertrude H. Hickel, 98, died Sept. 17, 2013 at The Regent Senior Living in Wichita.
Born Aug. 29, 1915, in Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Robert A. and Emma P. (Zecha) Hickel.
Gertrude graduated from Claflin High School and lived most of her adult life in Wichita. She was employed by Kansas State Bank in Wichita for 22 years until she retired.
Ms. Hickel was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and altar society in Claflin. She enjoyed traveling, baking, sewing, and playing cards.
Survivors include a brother, Vernon Hickel, Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Viola McCafferty, Wichita; Patty Degner-Keenan, Great Bend, and Jeanette Parnall, Clintonville, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Walter J. Hickel, Elmer Hickel, and Robert E. Hickel; and two sisters, Catherine Stalker and Maxine Hickel.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin with Father Donald Debes as celebrant. Burial will follow at Claflin Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service followed by an altar society rosary beginning at 7 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
