Mrs. Byrd was born Aug. 21, 1902, in Mosheim. She taught piano lessons for 25 years, later becoming a licensed vocational nurse for Providence Hospital. She also owned and administered the first licensed nursing home in Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Byrd, and a son, Eugene Doyle Byrd. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Jack N. Byrd of McGregor, Benny Steve Byrd of China Spring, and Doug Byrd of Waco; a daughter, Sue Betros of Waco; a brother, E.C. Johnson of Valley Mills; a sister, Mosette Kilpatrick of Temple; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home."
