Born into a family of artists, Franca made her debut as a stage actress by working in the theatrical company of her father. In 1948, she met Fo whom married a few years later. From 1958, she was the star of many plays written by her husband, including notably 'La signora è da buttare' (1967), 'Tutta casa, letto e chiesa' (1978), 'Fabulazzo osceno' (1981), 'Parliamo di donne' (1991), 'Sesso? Grazie, tanto per gradire' (1994), 'Il diavolo con le zinne' (1997), grotesque comedy show starring Giorgio Albertazzi, 'Marino libero! Marino è innocente!'(1998) and 'Lu santo jullare Francesco' (1999), a monologue about the figure of the saint of Assisi. In 2009, she wrote her autobiography 'Una vita all'improvvisa'. Franca died at eighty-four after a long illness.
