A second generation American of German ancestry, David Markey married Catharine Hummel in 1796. The family included Christina Catharine Markey, b. 1812, who likely died in infancy, in addition to two sons also buried in Mt. Olivet, Frederick Markey, 1796 - 1827, and David John Philip Markey, 1809 - 1885. The family lived in the town of Frederick where David Markey worked as a wheelwright, served at least one term as Constable and was later Clerk of the Sheriff's office. He served in the company of Capt. John Brengle after August 25, 1814 and is believed to have been engaged in the defense of Baltimore during the War of 1812. He died in 1820, leaving widow Catharine and two sons.
