Funeral services for Dale F. Franken, 62, of Odebolt were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 1988, at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. The Rev. Lyle W. Johnston officiated. Mr. Franken passed away January 16, 1988, in Storm Lake after a year-long illness.

Music was congregational singing. Pat Meyer was the organist. Mrs. Verdeen Luft and Mrs. Clifford McQuigg were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Pallbearers were Clarence Etler, Milo Reik, Robert Siebrecht, Darwin Reik, John Huldeen, Roger Buehler and Doug Kies. Interment was made in the Schaller Cemetery in Schaller, under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion Roose Post No. 313 of Odebolt and V.F.W. Post No. 4704 of Schaller.

Dale Fredrick Franken was born July 30, 1925, at Schaller, the son of Henry and Ella Ploeger Franken. He was baptized on October 4, 1925. In 1940 he graduated from grammar school in Vail. He married Phyllis Marlene Hoaglund on July 28, 1979, at the Methodist Church in Arthur.

Mr. Franken farmed for 37 years in the Odebolt area, retiring in 1986. He served in the United States Army from June of 1945 to November of 1946, and he worked for a while at HyGrade in Storm Lake. He played in a country music band, enjoyed photography, and he had a private pilot's license. In 1975 he was given the Odebolt FFA's outstanding service award. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Dennis D. of Schaller and Randy L. of Beaumont Tex.; three stepsons: David (Joan) Hoaglund of Sioux City, and Gregg and Barry Hoaglund of Odebolt; six grandchildren: Gregg and Gina Franken, Danielle, Jill and Michelle Law, and Katie Hoaglund; his parents, Henry and Ella Franken of Schaller; a brother-in-law, Bud Mongomery of Garner; and a niece, Ann Montgomery of Garner.

He was preceded in death by a sister, LaVon Montgomery.
