US MARINE CORPS WORLD WAR II

Allen Wayne Prather entered the Marine Corps 21 June, 1944 from Lee's Summit, Missouri. Completed recruit training in the 6th Recruit Training Battalion, MCB San Diego. 30 August, 1944 assigned to A Company, 8th Training Battalion, 4nd Infantry Training Regiment, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA.

11 November, 1944 assigned to the 27th Replacement Draft. 23 November, 1944 embarked the USAT Kota Agoeng at San Diego for movement overseas. 2 December, 1944 arrived at Hilo, Hawaii. There the 27th Replacement Draft was attached to Service Troops, 5th Marine Division.

25 December, 1944 embarked the USS Athene (AKA-22) at Pier Two, Hilo, Hawaii. After landing rehearsals and time in Pearl Harbor departed Hawaiian Islands 27 January, 1945. 5-7 February, 1945 at Eniwetok, Marshalls. 11-16 February, 1945 in the Marianas. 25 December, 1944 - 28 February, 1945 served as member the Ship's Platoon aboard the USS Athene loading and unloading cargo.

28 February, 1945 sent ashore and assigned as an infantry replacement in the 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division. Participated in combat operations until Killed in Action 2 March, 1945.

Next of Kin: Parents, Mr Frederick L and Mrs Myrtle M Prather, General Delivery, Hartwell, Missiouri.

Initially buried in the 5th Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima.

1948 returned to the US for permanent burial Lee's Summit Historical Cemetery, Lee's Summit, Missouri.
