Obituary for Julia Oppen Anderson Lee:
Julia Oppen Anderson was born August 20, 1857 in the Town of Dodgeville. At the age of 8 years the family moved to Highland Township, where she grew up to womanhood.
she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and has since been a faithful member of the Otter Creek congregation and the ladies aid. After only three days illness following a heart attack she passed peacefully away at her home on Friday, August 26, at the age of 79 years and 6 days. She was tenderly cared for by her son, Daniel and family who reside on the homestead.
She was united in marriage to Lewis Lee of Highland on January, 1877. To this union were born ten children, all of whom are living, namely, Mrs. Nick Mellum, Mrs. Mae Fingerson, Mrs Henry Mellum, Nels A Lee, Albert Lee, Mrs. Rudolph Peterson, Mrs. Lawrence Mellum, Mrs. John Blabaum, Mrs. John Reed, and Daniel Lee all of Highland. Also left to mourn her departure are one sister, Mrs. Sarah Christopher of Dodgeville and 36 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Besides rearing a large family, she tenderly cared for two granddaughters, who were left motherless early in infancy and have now grown to womanhood.
she was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away March 3, 1928 and two brothers, Nels and Anthony Anderson. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the Otter Creek Church, Rev. H. L. Anderson, officiating.
Six grandsons acted as pallbearers and six granddaughters as flower bearers and burial was made beside her husband in Otter Creek Cemetery. A large attendance at the funeral and many floral offerings were beautiful and bore mute testimony of the high esteem in which she was held. Her kind and generous nature will be long remembered by all who knew her.
A faithful wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend. Blessed be her memory.
