Monte H Goldman, real estate developer, civic leader and philanthropist, of Oklahoma City, OK and Aspen, Colorado, died in his home in Aspen on January 9, 1995. He was 59 years old. Monte was born in Oklahoma City on June 11, 1935 to Sylvan N Goldman and Margaret Katz Goldman. Both preceded him in death in 1984. Sylvan Goldman was a well-known and highly respected businessman and real estate developer in Oklahoma City and who was widely known for his invention of the shopping cart.

Monte attended Classen High School in OKC, and upon graduation attended the University of Oklahoma. After college, Monte entered the family business and continued the tradition started by his parents by participating in and contributing to charities and civic functions in OKC and in other areas of the country as well.

Monte was a founding member of the Phaythophen Charity Society. He was a founding officer of Western Security Life Insurance Company. Monte later became Chairman of the Board of Otero Savings and Loan Association of Colorado Springs, CO. Monte was also an avid skier and tennis player.

Some of the major real estate developments owned and managed by the Goldman family the Almonte, Hillcrest, Memorial Square, Camelot, and Penn-Hefner Shopping Centers in Oklahoma City.

Monte is survived by his wife, Carole, of Aspen, CO; his two daughters, Mehgan Elaine and Leslie Louise, of Orinda, CA; his step-children, Devin and Stefan Schutter, of Aspen, CO; his brother, Alfred D Goldman, of OKC; his cousin, Jerome Goldman, of Santa Monica CA; and his aunt Helen Katz Goldman, of Stillwater, OK.

Services will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery, OKC, at 10 am January 16, 1995. There will be a memorial services at the Aspen Chapel, in Aspen, CO on Friday, January 20, 1995 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Monte's name to the Sylvan N Goldman Center, Oklahoma Blood Institute, OKC. Funeral arrangements are by Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper, OKC.
