Mass for Angela D. Aiuppa, 72, wife of Joseph Aiuppa, semiretired boss of the Chicago crime syndicate, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1101 N. 23d St., Melrose Park. Mrs. Aiuppa, who lived with her husband in Oak Brook, died Saturday evening in Oak Park Hospital after a long illness.
Her husband had been boss of the Chicago crime syndicate until stepping aside in recent months to allow John Philip Cerone to take over.
Law enforcement officials familiar with mob activities listed Mrs. Aiuppa's declining health as one of the main reasons for her husband's retirement.
Surviving are her husband and two sisters.
