...Young Lieutenant, Commissioned July 3, Succumbes Following Operation for Appendicitis. Two and a half months after he was awarded his wings, making him a member of the United States Army Air Force, Lieut. Gerald R. Case. 21. son of Mr, and Mrs. Gerald S. Case, Route 3, passed away early today at Mitchel Field, N. Y. hospital, where he underwent an appendicitis operation Sept. 7. Members of the family left Thursday to be at his bedside of Lieut. Gerald R. Case after being notified that he had suddenly turned seriously ill, after seemingly being on the road to recovery. Lieutenant Case was a student for two years at Oshkosh State Teachers college, taking 4 CAA aviation training at the Oshkosh airport under the direction of S. J. Wittman and Walter Kroll. Kelly Field Graduate 1 He applied for enlistment in the air corps and went to Kelly Field Replacement Center in Texas. Subsequently he was stationed at Stamford, Tex., and Randolph Field, and won his wings July 3 at Kelly Field. He was born in Oshkosh Feb. 19, 1921. The family moved into the town of Algoma and Gerald attended Grange school before enrolling at Oshkosh High school. Survivors are his parents; one brother, George Starr Case, who expects to join the army in the draft later this month; a sister, Lorraine, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Starr Clark of Oshkosh. Relatives said the remains are expected to be brought to Oshkosh by the parents.
