LINDA L. BARRETT –- FLORENCE

Linda Lee (Law) Barrett, age 74, of W. Florence, SC, went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 8, 2017, at Presbyterian Willow Trace Rehab of Florence where she had been a few days resident following a four week illness and hospitalization with aspiration pneumonia at McLeod Hospital in Florence.

Linda was born on August 27, 1942, in Parkersburg, WV, the only child of Karl Oace Law and his second wife, Lillian Irene (Stanley) Law. She was raised in Parkersburg and attended Nash Elementary School, Washington Junior High School, and Parkersburg High School to become a May, 1960 graduate.

She married Mr. Russell Wayne Barrett in Parkersburg, WV, in the First Baptist Church on October 30, 1960, and enjoyed 53 years of marriage together before her husband's death in Florence, SC, on March 10, 2014.

She is survived by 3 beloved children: Dr. Michael Wayne Barrett and second wife (Dr. Valorie Florence Wainscott Kern) of Florence, SC; Joyce Ann (Barrett) Waggoner and husband (William Alan Waggoner) of N. Charleston, SC; and Susan Lynn (Barrett) Harman and husband (Robert Daniel Harman) of Key Largo, FL. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Scott Michael Barrett, Mikayla Rebecca Barrett, Joshua Aaron Barrett; Vivienne Leela Barrett & Varenna Law Barrett; Melissa Amber Waggoner & Grant Alan Waggoner; & 1 step-grandson: Dillon Porter Kern. And also by her well loved yellow lab, Maddie, who comforted her in the last few years since her husband passed.

She is also survived by a beloved older paternal half-sister, Barbara Jeanne (Law) Trumble (widow of Everett Sidney Trumble Jr), of Vidor, TX, and her children: Timothy Scott Trumble & Janet Sue (Trumble) Duty; And also by a beloved younger maternal half-sister, Sylvia Ann Ashby (Payne) Hackworth-Hermosillo (wife of Enrique 'Hank' Hermosillo) of St. Peters, MO, and her children: Lisa Michelle (Hackworth) Farnham & Gary Lee Hackworth. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Jean (McMillan) Barrett of Vienna, WV; She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband.

Linda lived in Parkersburg, WV, through 1979 and was active in local activities and church. She and her family attended and were active members of the Seventh Street UM Church in Parkersburg.

She was a very devoted mother and homemaker most of her life. She also attended Parkersburg Beauty College in 1975 and worked as a Cosmetologist in S. Parkersburg, WV, for a few years. She helped her husband with their business, Modern Camera & Framing Center, in S. Parkersburg, WV, in 1978. She enjoyed spending time with her family, picture framing, political & community interest activities, and outdoor & yard activities. She was very active in the Republican party.

In August 1979, her husband was transferred by E. I. DuPont to Florence, SC where she moved with her husband and 3 children and attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in W. Florence.

She is greatly missed by her family, friends, and many others who have had the pleasure of knowing and working with her.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to the caring, dedicated, and compassionate nurses and staff at McLeod Hospital and Presbyterian Home of Florence along with Dr. Angus and Dr. Shah who assisted with her care during her final illness.

Visitation held at the Layton-Anderson Funeral Home in W. Florence, SC, on Friday, February 10, 2017. Graveside service and interment in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC, on Saturday, February 11, 2017, beside her loving devoted husband.
