END CAME AS THE RESULT OF PARALYSIS.
DECEASED WAS 53 YEARS OLD.

Death Came Sunday Afternoon at 5 o'Clock -- With the Exception of Mrs. Lowndes, All of the Immediate Family Was Present -- Funeral This Afternoon at 2 o'Clock.

Mrs. Mary Baker, wife of ex-Senator Lucien Baker, died Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her residence No. 232 Third avenue of paralysis after being seriously ill since last Wednesday. Only the immediate members of the family were present when the end came. Mrs. Lowdes, her only daughter, is in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The deceased was born January 17, 1850, and was the daughter of Alexander Higginbotham, a pioneer of Kansas, who came here from Kentucky accompanied by his family in 1856.

For fifteen years Mrs. Baker had been experiencing protracted ill health and had already twice been stricken with paralysis, from both of which she rapidly recovered. When the fatal stroke came last week there was considerable apprehension felt by the family and a very large circle of friends over the city. Her death Sunday afternoon was, however, more than unexpected and came as a shock to the entire community.

Mrs. Baker was one of the first graduating class from Vassar college completing her course there in 1869. The deceased was married in 1872 and has resided here since that time except during the time spent at Washington during the senator's term of office. Mrs. Baker was in former years an active worker in social and educational matters in this city and was a well known club woman. The funeral will be held from the family residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock and internment will be in Mt. Muncie cemetery.

Rev. S. Pearson of the First Congregational church will officiate at the home and the following will be pallbearers: W. A. Rose, E. Gregory, C. L. Knapp, E. S. Catlin Frank Phelps and C. A. Sparrow.
