From the book "Kennesaw Mountain 1864" by Richard Baumgartner: "First Lieutenant..stretched out on the ground to relax. A few minutes later one of his men named Robert F. Rice sat down beside him. 'We are going to have a battle today,' the private said, 'and I will be killed. I want you to notice that I go as far as anyone in our company.'... The Lieutenant was puzzled, and later recalled 'I saw no indications of a battle and tried to reason with him. While thus engaged we were ordered up to the reserve where, without halting.. [we] were ordered out on the skirmish line... I saw [Robert] several rods in front of everyone else and while I was looking he... fell dead. Our best and bravest were falling fast.'"
