Eleanor was born in 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to Glen and Alice Clasen. A graduate of Iowa City High School, she worked as a medical records clerk for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and later as a secretary for a pediatrician in Iowa City. She married James H. Tellin on June 2, 1956 in Iowa City. They moved to Bettendorf in 1964 and after being a homemaker for several years she was a teacher's aide for Bettendorf Middle School.

Eleanor was a life-long book lover and as a member of the Friends of the Library, had volunteered at the Bettendorf Public Library since 1996 with over 3300 hours of service. She enjoyed being physically active and her interests were many and varied. These included her regular routine at the Bettendorf Fitness Center (and enjoying coffee with close friends there), bowling, tennis, swimming, snow skiing, and scuba diving. She and Jim enjoyed many motorcycling adventures touring the U.S, including Alaska and Canada. To celebrate her 75th birthday she fulfilled a long-time dream of parachuting from an airplane.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 57 years, Jim, daughters, Vicky Tellin of Pleasant Valley, Lisa (Doug) Wachal of Davenport, Laura (Ron) Fox of Bettendorf, grandson Derek (Taylor) Fox of Cedar Rapids, soon to be great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; sister Cynthia (Charlie) Brandes of Lakewood, Co and brother Evan Clasen of Long Beach, CA.
