A self-made woman with little formal education, Pearl had many occupations throughout her long life including farmer, cook, teacher, sewing machine technician, census taker and board of elections worker.
Pearl enjoyed Bingo and was a common fixture at the Elks Lodge in North Tonawanda when the numbers were being called. She also liked to sew and made many of her own clothes as well as wedding dresses and other items for friends and neighbors. Other hobbies included baking, beadwork and leatherwork.
A long time resident of North Tonawanda, Pearl was known by many as "The Cake Lady" and made wedding and special occasion cakes for a great number of WNY residents. She taught cake decorating and sewing classes at Tonawanda, North Tonawanda and Grand Island High School Adult Education for many years.
At the spry age of 85 she packed up her belongings and headed out west to Paso Robles where she lived with her sister Olive (Dot) until 2000 when she got her first apartment at California Manor in Atascadero, California. While in California, Pearl volunteered for The Braille Institute assembling Braille books for the blind.
This past year she returned to WNY and made The Bristol Home her home where she made fabulous friends with the staff and residents.
